John P. Atkinson

British, born in 1949, John Atkinson followed his graduation in Behavioural Science in 1971 with ten years as an educational administrator. Studied theology in Manchester obtaining a Bachelor of Divinity and has worked as a Methodist Minister for 27 years.

From 1994 to 2002 he worked as pastor of an international congregation in Berlin, Germany, where he came into contact with different cultures but especially with local people and with Americans. He was vice-chair of the Berlin Council for Foreign Congregations which had representatives from over 70 different international and denominational groups serving immigrant and visiting communities in the German capital, This has given him a wider perspective on international relations, ecumenism and cultural diversity. He is also a fluent German speaker.

Since returning to Britain in 2002 John, with his wife Lynda, has served as Superintendent Minister in Lichfield, Staffordshire and now in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales. Whilst in Lichfield he served as a part-time chaplain to a prison for young offenders and young adults, contributing to an inter-faith team.

He has had a special interest in the ministry of healing for at least 25 years and as well as having a personal healing ministry is interested in encouraging a recognition that "healing" involves commitment to social justice and reconciliation.

John has two adult children and three grandchildren. He has been married for 42 years.
