Giving and Receiving Hospitality [Older Youth]
Faith Practices(r) series
Explore the tension in hospitality between corporate keeping the customer satisfied and the extravagant welcome of Jesus.
Older youth are engaged in hospitality no matter the number of friends on a social networking site. Many older youth are employed in the hospitality industry which offers a different viewpoint as they wait tables, cook, scoop ice cream, make beds, clear dishes, lifeguard, baby-sit, caddy, mow lawns, and so on. During job training their employers instruct them to keep clients happy. This may lead to increased tips, but also to confusion regarding appropriate boundaries. Money, personal recommendations, and corporate status drive one side of hospitality. Another side is modeled by the extravagant welcome of Jesus. Christians offer hospitality, individually and as a community, because we are called to follow Jesus. This book encourages older youth to explore the tension between these two sides.
